ABOUT US

So here's the chance for me to tell how 2 Ladies and a Cake, aka , 2LC Bakery came into existence from the very beginning! (I am smiling from ear to ear as I type this, like its my 1st time telling it...well it may be your 1st time reading it so.....here goes!!)

Back in 2011 I was working for the government, and although I was on track for a promising career and had all the education to back up the aggressive paced climb to "the top" that I was on...I felt there was something missing.  Around that time Cupcake Wars was becoming a huge hit and my daughter and I would watch the shows together and I would say to myself, "I can do that!".  Needless to say, my daughter and I would find ourselves having the most fun when we were in the kitchen together. I would always let her help because it was the special time we shared since she was the only girl out of 3 children! So one night, while we making some cupcakes for the school PTA meeting she said to me, "Mom....we are just 2 Ladies and a Cake!" And boom!! Envision, a lightbulb going off, the heavens opening and light shining in the kitchen...ok well maybe it wasnt that dramatic but my eyebrows definitely raised. We decorated them up all pretty and the next day while we were in the meeting it seemed that the cupcakes that I thought were very basic in my opinion were a great hit (probably because it was the only homemade thing bought to the meeting, LOL). One lady came to me and said, "Do you bake for a living? I mean, do you do cupcakes for birthdays?" Before I could kindly decline and burden here with the "I'm in corporate America" spill my daughter blurted out "YES!" And somehow that ended up being my 1st order! As the word of mouth traveled  I began to do more little orders until one day I decided to do a small tasting for my church. The reviews were great! Next thing, lets see how well this would do as a side business.

Needless to say, I had to most supportive family and friends that were somehow "wowed, yet puzzled" that I was even considering such a thing as running a home based cake business but wondered when I had the time to do it, grow my skills, etc. (they really felt slighted cause all these years I wasn't sharing my baking skills for their personal gain..teeheehee...) but never the less they supported every chance they could! Welp, when God has a plan, He will definitely make it work when you are obedient and willing to follow. So from there, we did vending events, small orders, and baked every chance we could until it got so busy that I had to choose...do I really want to do this as a "side thing" or is it more to it? As I was sitting at my desk one day trying to focus on the wonderful interesting world of "governmental concerns" I couldn't help but to think how none of it mattered when I was so unhappy, felt so distant from my children, overworked, tired and not feeling purposeful. Even my co-workers knew I was destined to leave. Well, one day in 2015 I heard clearly, make your exit.  Now here I am thinking I have until the end of the year to "clear my desk" but nope. God said 2 weeks! Lets just say I left and never went back! From baking from home, to growing to using a shared kitchen facility to now owning my own shop this journey has been a true testament of faith, purposeful living, fun meeting all types of people, ministry to all who I encounter, a proudness and close relationship with my children and so much more!

When I first met with my logo artist years ago before I knew all this would come to past he said..."You need a slogan? What do you like to do most?" Well...I love to smile, to bake and to talk about God and His word and how I've literally been living out scriptures of faith...And since then...I knew and believe as my slogan says... "Were saving the world...one smile, one sweet, one scripture at a time!"
