ABOUT US
So here’s my chance to finally share how 2 Ladies and a Cake—affectionately known as 2LC Bakery—came into existence from the very beginning! I’m smiling from ear to ear as I type this, just like it’s the first time I’ve ever told it… and honestly, since this may be your first time reading it, here we go!
Back in 2011, I was working in government. On paper, everything looked great—I was on track for a promising career, armed with degrees, and climbing the fast-paced corporate ladder toward “the top.” But deep down, something was missing.
Around that same time, Cupcake Wars was becoming wildly popular. My daughter and I would watch it together, and I’d always find myself thinking, I can do that! Some of our happiest moments were spent in the kitchen together, baking and laughing. She was my only daughter out of three children, so that time was extra special to me.
One night, while we were baking cupcakes for a school PTA meeting, she looked at me and said,
“Mom… we’re just 2 ladies and a cake.”
And just like that—lightbulb moment. Now, I won’t say the heavens opened and beams of light shined through the kitchen (okay, maybe not that dramatic), but my eyebrows definitely raised. We decorated those cupcakes, took them to the meeting, and to my surprise, they were a hit—probably because they were the only homemade treat there (LOL).
A woman came up to me and asked,
“Do you bake for a living? Like… do you do cupcakes for birthdays?”
Before I could politely explain my whole “I work in corporate America” spiel, my daughter confidently blurted out,
“YES!”
And just like that… my very first order was born.
Word began to travel, and I started taking on small orders here and there. Eventually, I decided to host a small tasting at my church. The feedback was amazing, and that’s when I thought, Let’s see what this could really become as a side business.
I had the most supportive (and slightly confused) family and friends—wowed that I was even considering running a home-based cake business, yet puzzled about when I had the time to grow my skills and make it all happen. (They were also a little offended that I hadn’t been sharing my baking talents with them all those years… teehee!) But nevertheless, they showed up and supported me every step of the way.
And when God has a plan, He will absolutely make it work when you’re willing and obedient.
From there, we did vending events, small custom orders, and baked every chance we could. Eventually, it became so busy that I had to ask myself a real question:
Is this just a side thing… or is there more?
Sitting at my desk one day, attempting to focus on the thrilling world of “governmental concerns,” I realized how little any of it mattered when I felt unhappy, overworked, disconnected from my children, exhausted, and unfulfilled. Even my coworkers knew—I wasn’t going to be there forever.
Then in 2015, I heard God clearly say:
“Make your exit.”
I thought I had time—maybe until the end of the year to prepare.
But God said, “Two weeks.”
And that was it. I left… and never went back.
From baking at home, to working out of a shared kitchen, to eventually owning my own shop, this journey has been a true testament to faith, purpose, obedience, and joy. It has allowed me to meet incredible people, serve others through ministry, grow closer to my children, and live a life that feels deeply aligned with who God created me to be.
Years ago, when I first met with my logo artist—long before I knew how this story would unfold—he asked me,
“What do you like to do most?”
My answer was simple.
I love to smile.
I love to bake.
And I love to talk about God—His Word, His promises, and how I’ve lived them out in real time.
And from that moment on, I knew exactly what our slogan would be:
“We’re saving the world… one smile, one sweet, one scripture at a time.”
